The Day's Sky

UTC

The Sun meets Mercury in the dark of Scorpio, and the long review finds its seed.

The Sun and retrograde Mercury meet today in Scorpio, less than a quarter of a degree apart. This is Mercury's inferior conjunction. The messenger stands between the Earth and the Sun, lost in the glare, unseen at the very hour it is closest. The retrograde has passed its midpoint. What opened when Mercury turned backward on October 24 is now fully exposed to a light too strong to show it clearly. The day does not ask for conclusions. It asks for the seed: the one thought beneath the many, the one from which the next cycle grows.

The second fact is gentler, and just as exact. Venus, retrograde in Libra, her own sign, forms a sextile to Jupiter in Leo with almost no distance between them. Venus governs the measure of what is valued and the terms by which two things agree. In her backward season those terms are under review. Jupiter answers from Leo with warmth and room. The contact does not end the review. It shows which parts of it are worth keeping.

Five planets are retrograde. Two of them, Mercury and Venus, turn direct within a day of each other, on November 13 and November 14. The sky is gathering toward a double threshold. Before it, the Moon wanes in Virgo toward the New Moon in Scorpio on November 9, and the dark of the month falls inside the dark of the retrograde. The hour favors the sorting of what has already been said, written, and promised. Declarations can wait for the turn.

Five planets retrograde

The held planets

Five planets move backward against the stars, and the sky reads as one condition: a season of return. The motion is apparent. The Earth has overtaken them, and the view has shifted. What the participant sees again is what was left unfinished. The personal planets carry the condition closest. Mercury and Venus revisit thought and value in the same weeks, Mercury at its center today, Venus well into the last stretch of her course. Saturn and Neptune, both in Aries, are late in their long retrogrades and turn in December, two days apart. Uranus in Gemini is earlier in its course and holds the background longest. Nothing here is a warning. It is an order of review, and the review is nearly ripe.

  • Mercury Rx

    Scorpio 12°18′ · 10 days to direct

Mercury governs speech, reckoning, the letter and the ledger. In Scorpio its review moves beneath the surface, toward what was withheld or half-said. It stationed retrograde on October 24 and stands today just past its midpoint, joined to the Sun. Here the old cycle closes and the new one is seeded. It turns direct on November 13, and the words that follow will carry what was found.

  • Venus Rx

    Libra 24°42′ · 10 days to direct

Venus governs value, beauty, and the terms of relation. In Libra, her own sign, the backward motion returns to agreements, to balance, to what each side gives and receives. She stationed retrograde on October 3 and has traveled most of her course. Today's sextile to Jupiter lends the review warmth. She turns direct on November 14, and what has been weighed again can be set in its place.

  • Saturn Rx

    Aries 9°04′ · 37 days to direct

Saturn governs form, limit, and the slow labor of structure. In Aries, the sign of first acts, its retrograde returns to what was started in haste and asks whether it can bear weight. It has moved backward for one hundred days and is in the last third of its course. It turns direct on December 10. The work now is reinforcement, not expansion.

  • Uranus Rx

    Gemini 4°32′ · 97 days to direct

Uranus governs the sudden opening, the break that lets air into a closed room. In Gemini its retrograde returns to ideas, exchanges, and the ways knowledge travels. It is early in its course, a little more than a third of the way through, and turns direct on February 8, 2027. It is background, not weather. The revision it asks for unfolds over months.

  • Neptune Rx

    Aries 2°00′ · 39 days to direct

Neptune governs the image, the longing, and the dissolving of edges. In Aries, at the opening degrees of the zodiac, its retrograde returns to the first visions of a new cycle and tests which of them were true. It has moved backward for one hundred and twenty days and nears its station. It turns direct on December 12, two days after Saturn.

What is moving

  1. Exact contact · TodayVenus sextile JupiterNovember 4 · 10:31 UTC

Venus in Libra and Jupiter in Leo meet by sextile, exact today. The retrograde of value receives a generous witness. What is being reconsidered in love, in craft, in the terms of exchange is seen at its most gracious. The contact favors appreciation over decision.

  2. Exact contact · TodaySun conjunct MercuryNovember 4 · 14:24 UTC

The Sun and Mercury join in Scorpio while Mercury is retrograde. This is the inferior conjunction: the center of the retrograde and the seed of Mercury's next cycle. Thought sits close to its source and is difficult to see. Listening precedes speech.

  3. Lunar phase · In 5 daysNew Moon in ScorpioNovember 9 · 07:02 UTC

The Moon goes dark in Scorpio on November 9, within the closing days of the Mercury and Venus retrogrades. A beginning in Scorpio is a beginning in depth. It happens underneath, quietly, before it has a name.

  4. Exact contact · In 6 daysVenus sextile MarsNovember 10 · 06:47 UTC

Venus, still retrograde, forms a sextile to Mars on November 10. Desire and value cooperate. What has been reconsidered leans toward action without being pushed, four days before Venus turns.

  5. Station · In 9 daysMercury stations directNovember 13 · 15:53 UTC

Mercury stations direct on November 13. At the station the planet is nearly motionless, and its theme stands at full weight. The days around it gather everything the retrograde has turned over. Clarity comes after the turn, not at it.

  6. Station · In 10 daysVenus stations directNovember 14 · 00:27 UTC

Venus stations direct on November 14, less than a day after Mercury. The terms of value and relation, revisited since October 3, come to rest. Two personal planets turning together make a single threshold. What has been weighed is ready to be carried.

Contacts

Sun sextile Moonorb 3.3°
The Sun in Scorpio and the Moon in Virgo stand in sextile, a few degrees apart. The feeling of the day and its central purpose cooperate. The mood is practical, quiet, and willing to tend.
Moon sextile Mercuryorb 3.1°
The waning Moon in Virgo forms a wide sextile to Mercury in Scorpio. Attention to small things serves the review. Drafts, corrections, and careful rereading belong to the hour.
Uranus trine Plutoorb 1.4°
Uranus in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius hold a wide trine, part of a long background among the outer planets. It describes a slow reordering of how ideas and collectives move. It is not today's weather.

Waning Crescent · 23% lit

The Moon in Virgo

The Moon is a waning crescent in Virgo, a little under a quarter lit. It is void of course through the day, with no further major contacts before it leaves the sign, and it enters Libra on November 5. A void Moon does not stop the day. It loosens the grip of outcomes and favors completion over initiation. The Moon reaches Scorpio on November 7, and the New Moon in Scorpio follows on November 9. The light is thinning. The work is in the clearing.

  • Void of course until November 5, 14:38 UTC
  • New Moon in Scorpio · November 9

Orientation

For the day

Begin
Return to one unfinished letter, record, or agreement. Read it again slowly, and correct only what is untrue.
Set down
Leave the need to decide unforced. Mercury and Venus both turn within ten days, and the answer ripens there.
Reflect
Beneath everything said this season, what is the one thought that has not yet been spoken aloud?

The seed is planted in the glare, where nothing can be seen.
